IMDB rating: 6.30

Plot: Rannulph Junnah is the best golfer in Savannah. He’s living well and has a girl, Adele Invergordon, who’s the daughter of a wealthy landowner. The First World War starts, though, and Junnah goes to Europe to fight. The only survivor of a dangerous mission, Junnah doesn’t return to Savannah for 15 years. In 1930, he returns, and Adele’s father has already committed suicide during the Depression. Pressured by tax collectors to sell the golf course her father built to pay off debts, Adele, now older, vows to bring to Savannah the greatest match ever played on the greatest golf course, her late father’s. She’s able to round up the 2 greatest golfers of their time, Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen to play for $10,000. The townspeople insist on having “one of their own” compete also, and Rannulph Junnah is rounded up. Junnah now hangs out with bums and is an alcoholic, as he has lost his authentic swing from 15 years ago. At first he turns down the offer. He gets his old clubs and balls and starts practicing. He has lost his ability. Suddenly, Bagger Vance shows up. He offers to be Junnahs’s caddy and help him regain his “authentic swing”. He does, and Junnah agrees to play in the big match.

Do you like my short story?
the sound of a nervous break down was in my ear, a 1000 ego and id
robots were turning the crank on the wobbulator of my psyche. i was in
the old mansion up on the hill when it began. it was an elegant
affair. a room full of well dressed people; men in suits, and women in
sequin dresses w/ peacock feathers in there hair. everyone was wearing
animal masks. i had drank the punch, and it tasted like ordinary punch
until i noticed something peculiar. all of the chairs and tables
looked like they were coming to life, the wall paper was breathing
and oozing out jelly, and the arms of the clocks started moving
faster. nothing about the party seemed funny, so i left the party
without saying goodbye. people asked are you alright? i stepped into
the kitchen of the mansion. there was a great fire, and a pig roasting
over it. above me i saw pots, and pans and hanging on hooks i saw
ducks, chickens, and the legs of pigs swaying above me. the smell of
spice, smoke, and animal fats filled the air. i saw a large commotion
by the brick oven, two chefs were arguing about the cream sauce for
the chicken as i shuffled on by. before me was an old wooden door,
with an owl above it. i felt a great fear to open it, because i didn’t
know what was out there. i opened it and stepped into a chilled
breezed. silence was everywhere. under the twinkling stars was the
empty night. a set of curving stone steps laid into the hill led me
down into the woods. i felt a chill breeze, but i took the path to a
clearing where i found a circle of stones and beyond the circle of
stones was a black rock making a vibrating sound which i listened to.
the more i listend the more i noticed all the trees and vegetables of
the forest were watching me. i felt like i was falling into blackness.
two strikes of lightning and i was falling upright. falling and
twisting.

slow and stretching out through air, and increasing speed. mouth open
wide, but no sound.

a complete feeling of space and nothingness. all around me i saw
falling chairs and tables….

LA la, LA la, LAHHH, la…i see a shimery diamond rotate, like the
sinking feeling of falling into quicksand the dream fades, the
whistling of wind is in my ear. i get an eye full of cool grass
blowing in front of my face and slowly i start to gather my whits. i
realize exactly where i am. i’m laying out in the yard just below the
mansion a little above the woods. as i start to brush off all the
grass and dirt off my jacket i notice the morning crew pulling into
the driveway arriving for their day shift of work at the mansion. most
of them just look at me strangely. their gaze at me is unbearable. i
start to head towards my car, and as i start my car i think to myself
i must never drink that punch again.

the end

In the olden days, that would have been an LSD trip! You need a breath meter to keep yourself in line! lol

"A conservative is a man who is too cowardly to fight and too fat to run"?

A conservative is someone who is too eager to fight.
Derek | Jun 27, 2009

Certainly doesn’t apply to any Conservative I know (personally, anyway).

My hubby and I are proud Conservatives and we just came in after all day working outside. We split about 4 cords of wood today! Now we have to stack it… Stinks, but it keeps us in shape and warm all winter :-) Carla | Jun 27, 2009

Kind of a stereotype, which I don’t buy into (though it’s funny).

Since the vast majority of military and law enforcement personnel are conservatives, he is decidedly wrong.

well lets see, I’m 6′2" 245lbs and in damn good shape, working for a living does that. So that blows the fat theory out of the water.
Can’t be a coward due to I’m too damn stubborn to back down when I’m right. Or just ask the guy I seen smack a lady a few years ago, cost me a night in jail, but it was worth it!!
And that blows the coward theory out of the water.

Well Said John D!!!! Well Said!!!!

Considering most people in the military, as defined by voting patterns, are conservative, then this comment doesn’t match reality.
KRK | Jun 27, 2009

No. A conservative is one who realizes that in order to maintain our way of life and our freedom, sometimes a fight is necessary. When that time comes, it is the conservative who puts his life on the line to defend the rights of people like you to spout your pseudo-intellectual effluvia, while liberals are busy chanting "No blood for oil" and other assorted inanities.

When will the new Sharpe be shown?
They started filming Sharpes Peril in May and i wondered when it will be shown on british TV? Also, does anyone know what it will be about? I cant wait!

ITV haven’t updated the ‘Sharpe’ page on their website with an air date for Sharpe’s Peril yet but you can still get some information about it here: http://www.itv.com/Drama/perioddrama/Sha rpe/default.html

Apparently a few of ITV’s big budget dramas have been delayed this year because of some new guy taking over in ITV, so there’s no definite date for when Sharpe’s Peril will be shown but it should be some time in November.

You can already pre-order it on DVD from Amazon and the DVD release date is 24 November so I would think that it will probably air on or around 23 November.

( ), it becomes simply a term of abuse, in musical terms a weapon in the battle over musical styles, over the aesthetic value of the popular and the commercial value of the unpopular. Indeed, the notion of `anachronism’ is surely a construct, not a description of the relation between events.
