Over emotional 3 year old?
help I am lost at what to do…
Here is the situation…almost 2 years ago my son joined the military, his wife decided she no longer wanted the kids (they were 17 months & 3 weeks at the time) I took them in.The youngest is happy go lucky, but the oldest, which is 3 now seems to be overly emotional and I am not sure how to handle it. It has seemed to get worse the older she gets. She cries about everything from having to eat, falling, getting into trouble or even going to the bathroom. When I 1st got her she would cry if anyone but me said hey. She has gotten better about that but still doesn’t like ppl she doesn’t see on a regular basis. At 1st I thought they were tantrums and have been ignoring it but lately it’s like she’s wanting to cry and holding it back. Like this morning at breakfast she didn’t want to eat but wanted chocolate milk ( if she drinks before she will not eat) so I gave her water & told her when she ate a little I would give her chocolate milk. She acted like it broke her heart. I could see the tears in her eyes while she was holding them in. She did eat & I gave her the milk but later I ask her why she was crying she said I hurt her feelings. I ask why and she said because I was mad at her. She doesn’t play well during the day unless I devote 100% attention to her, which is hard because I also have the 21 month old. She is always saying she’s sad,but if I ask why she says she don’t know. She can be sitting with me and bust out crying for no reason & if I ask why are you crying she says I don’t know and this happens a lot. Also when I tell her not to do something she shakes like crazy. I have never spanked her so I don’t know why she acts so scared ( She has done this ever since I 1st got her). I always try to make sure I treat both girls the same. If me or anyone leaves the room that she likes she will cry don’t leave me.I have talk with her Dr. about counseling but he says she’s to young. Her mother has only visited a few times since she left them and there father has been stationed in NY & hasn’t seen them. I have adopted the youngest but the father will not sign the papers for the oldest. I love these two girls as if they were my own and it breaks my hurt to think she’s hurting & not knowing what to do. I feel guilty because I have ignored it this long thinking they were tantrums. There have been times I thought maybe she need extra attention and tried to give it but it seemed to make her worse like she did it for even more attention. So…please help me..What do I do? Is this normal? Is it tantrums or is there a real problem? I have raised 4 children of my own ( all grown) and never have I had one to do this.Just needing some advice..

im not really sure, i think most her age go through this. maybe try putting her in to day care to see how she is with other kids her age. i think she has a right fear of been left behind because of her mother leaving them and her father not been there. i would see a different doctor if u can, there are child counseling places
kroos20 | Feb 06, 2010

This really doesn’t seem healthy, normal behavior to me. It was probably traumatic when her Mother gave her up even though she can’t express it or explain it. Maybe she was also abused by her. I suggest an appointment with her pediatrician and perhaps follow-up with a counselor. The Dr. will be able to recommend one. Thank God the children have you. It sounds as though you really love them.
Good Luck.

I am going through this exact thing.. I went to see a child psycol.. and she said that the child his having seperation issues because they are well aware of the big change and the feeling of abandonment even at such a young age… mine was 16 months now 3 and half… you have to insure her that you are there and she is a blessing to you and your not going to anywhere.. mind you in three year old language… make her life seem as stable as possible ex. put up drawings she has done on the walls make sure to hang a lot of pictures of her in your house… let her help pic out veggies or sides for dinner say mashed potatos tonight or mac and cheese with the chicken… make her feel like she has some control over what is going on to her (not to much) but she will feel needed and included in your life… if you don’t nip it in the bud now she will have issues in school and with society good luck.. its not easy to figure out how to do all this because if your anything like me you feel like you already to it… I have noticed changes small but we are getting there.. she doesn’t cry so much … still very attached to me but is starting to open up with other people…

This totally sounds like it is the result of abuse and separation. Children learn a TON in that first year and a half of life, and hers was unstable.

I think you need to talk to a child development specialist, or early childhood psychologist.

Rocky V

Rocky V
Rocky V (1990)

IMDB rating: 4.30

Plot: World heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Balboa returns home to Philadelphia to a hero’s welcome after defeating Ivan Drago in a brutal match. Rocky soon discovers that his match with Drago has left him with damage to his brain, and his fortune, which he had entrusted to his wife Adrian’s brother Paulie, has been squandered by an incompetent accountant. In debt to the IRS, Rocky is forced to sell most of his possessions, including his mansion. Rocky, Adrian, and their son Rocky Balboa Jr, move back to Rocky’s old neighborhood in South Philadelphia. Adjustment to the dramatically different lifestyle proves to be more difficult for Rocky Balboa Jr than it is for Rocky and Adrian. Junior quickly becomes involved with a bad crowd, and encounters a bully. Meanwhile, financially desperate Rocky is tempted to re-enter the ring when shady promoter George Washington Duke offers him a huge amount of money to defend his title. Adrian insists that Rocky not risk his life by returning to the ring. Rocky’s financial future looks bleak, until he is approached by a young boxer named Tommy “Machine” Gunn, who idolizes Rocky and begs Rocky to help him train. Rocky agrees to train Tommy, but this hurts Rocky’s relationship with Junior, who believes Rocky is neglecting him in favor of Tommy. Junior becomes even more deeply involved with the bad crowd that he has fallen into. Junior even undergoes training and beats up the bully who was harassing him. After Tommy wins his first few matches, he starts becoming arrogant. When Tommy, who wants a high profile match against a champion, arrogantly decides that Rocky is not moving him up quickly enough, an impatient Tommy turns his back on Rocky and hires Duke as his new manager. While this gives Rocky and Junior the chance they need to work things out with each other, Tommy wins a belt, and still doesn’t have the respect that he’s arrogantly looking for because fans always boo him. Duke tells Tommy that the only way to get the respect Tommy wants would be to beat Rocky one-on-one, so Duke and Tommy find Rocky at a bar, and Tommy challenges Rocky to a street fight that may put Rocky’s life on the line.

david tua vs rocky marciano who wins?

This might sound crazy and I know it’s hard to imagine a man who never held a portion of the title beating one of the most highly regarded champions but lets look at Facts and Logic.

Marciano was indeed a great champion. But there is no way that two fighters of like styles would meet in the ring with a 35 lb. weight difference and the smaller man comes out on top.

I could see if the styles were different. I can see an 188 lb. boxer beating a 225 lb. slugger or puncher. I could even see a 188 lb. Puncher beating a 225 lb. boxer.

But, in this case, you have a man who has NEVER been knocked down once. He weighs about 225-230 at his best and punches as hard as Mike Tyson. As great as Marciano was, he’s simply too small to beat a man with Tua’s numbers. Rocky can’t change his style and Tua wouldn’t have to. If there is a difference of about 20 lbs. I can see where that would not always make a big difference IN THE RING. Evander Holyfield weighed about 208 - 212 and beat most of the best Big men in the sport during his time.

The difference here is not so much Size but Style and the Difference in Size, being over 30 lbs. If Rocky could get up to about 202 lbs. and retain his same Stamina level, I can see him beating a lot of history’s best Big men. But Rocky never fought that high. He’s simply too small for David Tua.

The other thing to consider is that Tua, like Rocky, has Late Rounds Stamina. I didn’t get the chance to do Tyson vs Tua on this board but I did it before. Again, people might think I’m nuts but both Tyson and Tua would be too Big and Skilled for Rocky to handle. Both pack too much Power.

And, I dare say, that Tua could also possibly beat Tyson. Tyson equals him in Power and Both can take a LOT of punishment. Both Tua and Tyson have been hit by some of HIstory’s hardest Punchers. Tyson’s losses were due to Poor Stamina. Tua has never been off his feet.

Rocky would make a good fight of it but I think he loses this one. He wouldn’t be able to seriously hurt Tua.

Tua by KO in 8

I personally would give all of them 3/5.Because they are good movies - but not my kind.
Just because I don’t like them - they’re still good movies.
So yeah, 3/5.

What do people say they feel like they've experienced when they've died and have been revived?
I couldn’t find any decent ways to ask the question in google. What do people see when their hearts have stopped and they are then revived, such as by defibrillators? I started wondering after I saw Flatliners

Have you seen the movie "Joe versus the Volcano"?
This is a great movie but it always surprises me how few have seen it and how few of those liked it. Where are you on that one?

I saw it when it first came out, it was too silly, and the premise that he was going to kill himself because he was dying of a painful disease just seemed a little too icky for a comedy.

sdvwallingford | May 25, 2006

Seen it. Didn’t dig it at all.
zippythejessi | May 25, 2006

It was great! The first Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romance movie.
Monica G | May 25, 2006

Yes I have seen it. It was not one of Tom Hanks best efforts, he is a much better and deeper actor than the movie portrayed him to be.
It was a fluffy kind of thing that didn’t do well, but thankfully he came on back and blew us away with some of the best films I have ever seen.
lockerridge | May 25, 2006

Sorry, i thought i had a brain cloud when that was available for viewing. If you like that, Tom Hank and Blondie McDoodle did about ten other lousy movies together.
judgemartiniz | May 25, 2006

I haven’t seen it in a good while, but it was pretty good. It’s so strange, most people wouldn’t like it, but it’s not bad.
Disco Stu | May 25, 2006

I have seen it more than once, and yes I like that movie.

Not really a candidate for any awards, but not a bad way to kill 2 hours either.

I’ve seen it. The only thing I remember about it is Tom Hanks and I think John Candy starred. It’s been a looooong time since I’ve seen it…
da_humbla | May 25, 2006

It came out right after "When Harry Met Sally" (with Meg Ryan) and "Big" with Tom Hanks. So everyone expected this to be a magical pairing of these two. But it wasn’t very "magical" for me. I think everyone’s expectations were so high. Perhaps that’s why when they made "Sleepless in Seattle" together a few years later, it was such a surprise hit.

I thought it was an okay movie.

I saw it - it was good, but you had to be in the right mood to see it.

If only Tom Hanks had those steamer trunks in "Cast Away"…

Joe versus the Volcano was released in 1990 and I saw it then because I was a fan of Tom Hanks. The movie was a huge flop. I liked that he learned that he truly wanted to live and that life was important to him.
soplaw2001 | May 25, 2006

I saw that about a million years ago but loved it! I love Abe Vigoda as the chief of the Waponi-woo’s. Or the scene where Tom Hanks says the fluorescent lights are sucking the life out of him… who doesn’t feel like that once in a while???

I love that movie but I have to admit I am the only one in our crowd that does. They just have no taste that’s all!:)

I have it in my DVD collection. It was a good movie. I think a lot of people might not get the movie because it has metaphysical undertones to it.
