IMDB rating: 6.10 Plot: A masochistic cop (Maura Tierney), who hides her predilection from her cop husband (Terry Kinney), gets involved in pursuing a kidnapper nicknamed Harry for Harry Houdini (Adrien Brody), who has kidnapped a rich woman (Laila Robins) and has buried her somewhere in Manhattan while demanding a ransom from her tycoon husband (James Naughton). Would this be considered 'emotional abuse'?
My friend & her dad have never really been close. Tonight, he started yelling @ her to the point were she was crying. He didn’t stop yelling when she broke down & started crying on the floor, or when she started hyperventilating, or when she her mother was on the ground helping her breath with a paper bag, or when she couldn’t feel her hands due to lack of oxygen. He kept yelling @ her. She’s okay now, but she’s sick of all of it; what can she do? I’m worried, she’s 17 & doesn’t know if she can wait until 18 to move out. What would you tell her?
In my point of view, it can be considered as an emotional abuse. The lack of empathy from her father just shows that he doesn’t give a damn with what she’s feeling.

IMDB rating: 7.10 Plot: Maya is a quick-witted young woman who comes over the Mexican border without papers and makes her way to the LA home of her older sister Rosa. Rosa gets Maya a job as a janitor: a non-union janitorial service has the contract, the foul-mouthed supervisor can fire workers on a whim, and the service-workers’ union has assigned organizer Sam Shapiro to bring its “justice for janitors” campaign to the building. Sam finds Maya a willing listener, she’s also attracted to him. Rosa resists, she has an ailing husband to consider. The workers try for public support; management intimidates workers to divide and conquer. Rosa and Maya as well as workers and management may be set to collide. |
