see i have come to the conclusion that for my school talent show i would like to do the interrogation scene from the dark knight. How can I confront my mother on her racism towards my wife and her jealousy of my late father's dead mistress?
I’m a 46 year old white man. I’m married with two biracial teenage daughters. In 2006, my father died of lung cancer. But last year in June 2009, my father’s mistress Barbara died of breast cancer. Unfortunately, my father was cheating on my mother with Barbara ever since I was about eleven or twelve years old. Now, I’m 46 and my sister Kate is 42. Barbara’s husband died a few years before she met my father. Barbara has one daughter around my age. I know my mom was hurt over my dad and Barbara’s affair but she chose to stick around for the sake of my sister and me. In time, my sister and I really learned to love Barbara. She bought us things and took us places despite what my mother had to say about it.
I really started to get angry with my mother 19 years ago when I married my wife Yolanda. My mom was a complete racist "monster-in-law"; she hated the fact that I married an African-American woman and she was the ONLY person in my family who did not attend my wedding aka THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!! But guess what? My dad was there WITH BARBARA. Barbara is not my mother, therefore, she didn’t have to come. But that shows how sweet that woman was. To this day, my wife says that Barbara is more her mother-in-law than my mom would ever be. And I completely understand. Barbara’s affair with my dad lasted until he died. As much as she loved my dad, she couldn’t go to the funeral to face my mother. And that was something she regretted until she died last year. Like I said, Barbara has a daughter and she also has three grandchildren. But she managed to squeeze me, my sister, my wife, my sister’s husband, my children and my sister’s children into her will and she left us some money. My mom had nothing but cruel comments to say about it and I’m sick of it. My mom took that opportunity to attack Barbara who is now DEAD and my wife! Should I really talk to my mother? Or am I just not understanding her bitterness?

I am intrigued by your story. Thank you for sharing it. As Curious said, you didn’t mention if Barbara was Black or not. I am assuming that she was, and that is why you had mentioned your wife and how your mother dislikes your wife for being black. I think you should talk to your mother and tell her how unfair it is that she is letting what happened between her husband and Barbara in the past affect her present with you and your wife. Why should your wife have to suffer because your mother is a racist and has these issues with your father? It isn’t fair to your wife. If your mother had such a problem with the situation, then she should have divorced your father.
Talk to your mother and get how you feel off your chest. Be prepared, though, in regards to how she reacts. You may talk with her, and it may lead to a better relationship between your mother and your wife, or it may not. It’s a 50/50 shot. If your mother doesn’t change her feelings about your wife, then you may have to accept that even though you love and respect your mother, she won’t be a major presence in your life because of her racist beliefs and also because she cannot get over the past. The important thing is NOT to feel guilty if she doesn’t see your side of things. You talked to her and did what you could, and you have to make peace with yourself that you at least tried to make things better.

Was Barbara of black descent? you never made that clear. But if she is it is very clear why your mother doesn’t want you with a black woman. It probably reminds her of your fathers affair. But in no way should she hate your wife nor a whole race for what your dad chose to do. That’s so sad she couldn’t get over that to go to your wedding. And it must’ve been heartbreaking for Barbara not to be able to be there for your father’s funeral but that was probably the wisest choice. You need to talk to your mother and tell her you understand that she is hurt from what has happened but she should not hold your wife accountable. We can’t help what color we are or who we love. I think you just need to get to the heart of the situation but I bet if Barb was black that is the problem right there.

I think I've just experienced love at first sight?
Well I was sitting in class today when the principle came around and introduced us to this girl called Kiara. She walked through the doors and my eyes popped out of my head, we both stared at each other for a moment, I smiled she smiled then I sunk into my chair. I just broke up about 3 weeks ago with my girlfriend who was great to me and I was great with her we both just thought we were closer when we were mates. No such thing as love at first sight. Love has to grow. It was an immediate attraction which is good. The problem is that you have to be sure that you are over your ex before seeing anyone else. You do not want this girl to end up being just a rebound. Just talk to her and tell her you are interested in her, but you need to be sure you are ready to start dating again. (She will respect you for being so sensitive) Ask her if it is okay for you to ask her out when you feel ready.

How should I approach a girl?
In my law class, we had to work in groups of 6 and I ended up working in a group with 5 girls. Including me it’s six (I’m a boy) . There is this one girl in the group that I really like but I don’t even know her. I just like her… I don’t even know her name or anything about her.. this is sort of like love at first sight. Tomorrow, me and the other 5 girls have to go in front of the whole class and present our work. How should I approach this girl to let her know that I’m interested in her? Today in class, everyone was just working with their groups and I was really quiet, I barely even said anything because I was shy. I’m usually like that around girls… I can’t look in their eyes and talk, I always look down and talk and if I’m looking at them and if they turn to look at me, I quickly just turn away…
How can I stop myself from doing this and how can I approach that one girl that I really like? Thanks

Pretty much, yeah. An abuser doesn’t put up with another abuser, they’d just leave. It’s the good hearted ones that treat their partner well and hope they’ll change that stick around to get abused.
A stable relationship is where the good hearted person finds another good hearted person and leaves the abuser.

Yes, I too have a sister that is this way, she acts like a doormat so is she treated like one. The better she is to him the worse she is treated, it is better to not do for someone something they would not do for you if asked. This is her way of abusing her self, moments of levity or normalcy cause her pain. Treat him as you would like to be treated. No more, no less.

This happens more times than we often realize and not just to women but men as well. I myself have been guilty of being that oh she is so sweet type until I woke up.I treat my partner the same way they treat me and if I seem like I’m being a a** then they need to make a check on themselves and straighten up or to the curb they go! . Be the caring and loving person you are but don’t let them take control or advantage of the situation and if they try then they don’t deserve you get out asap because your better than that and deserve a real man or woman.

I think that good hearted people are very valuable, and that it is often the abuser that is the problem, not the other way around. It makes it more difficult to find someone who will treat you well, but worth waiting for……..
I think some areas and certain religions encourage the abuse of women , when in fact it is suppose to be just the opposite, the complete respect and loving care of women, and each other. It doesnt happen in some areas.
So, if you cannot meet men who dont think this way, to love and care for you, then wait and make a plan to meet them in some way, and wait it out.
Good hearted people are a jewel in this world. If you need to take assertiveness classes, then do that, so you dont become a doormat for abusers to walk all over and wipe their feet on, also.
Or , just move.
Love is not abuse.
PS I am also thinking that you might have better luck finding someone if you get involved with areas that attrack good hearted people, and that have strong anti abuse expectations…… i dont know where you are, but i am thinking philanthropists, orphanges, places where people do things just to love and help others………..you think of some, and go get a job there.

suddenly missing a girl and cant get her out of my head.?
I need some help, i feel like I’m going crazy. let me give you some background first. I’m a 20 year old guy, normal weight and everything. I’m not ugly but I’m also not hot, most girls would prolly call me cute. I’m really shy when it comes to girls and i always let good chances go by because I’m also scared of rejection. Anyways, around this time 2 years ago through a friend i met a girl. I don’t want to call it love at first sight but the first time i saw her i knew i wanted her to be my girl friend. The next day we started talking on facebook and AIM, and he hit it off really good. We would talk to each other all the time if we were own. We then went out on a date a week after first meeting her, and then another the next weekend. All this time we would talk like all the time, hours and hours each day. Then after about a month and a half i started to feel like she didn’t like me anymore. All our plans would get canceled, not just on her part but on mine to for reasons that were out of our control. Then we talked and she admitted that she liked me a lot when we first starting dating but her feelings changed and she didn’t know why. We then were just friends, even though i did still like her. Anyway, we starting talking less and less, and about 2 months after just being friends we stooped talking altogether. This was before the summer. Then i started to not even think about her, then suddenly we started talking again around this time last year. From then on we occasionally talk here and there and that was fine. But lately i don’t know what happened, I’m suddenly really missing her a lot. I Don’t know why either. I think about her all the time now, I miss talking to her on a regular basis.
So to sum it all up… why am i suddenly missing a girl this much, much later after we stopped being close? Like last year when we first talked again for the longest time I didn’t feel this at all. Why is this happening now so late after what happened? please i need help, thanks.
