Timecop
|
IMDB rating: 5.40 Plot: In Washington DC in 1994, the Senate Oversight Committee (SOC) is being spoken to in the capitol building by George Spota, who explains that for the past 20 years, Doctor Hans Kleindast, the Nobel laureate who help the government with the space program back in the 1960s and 1970s, has been doing research, and his field of research has been time travel. The SOC believes that Hans is a quack — until George tells the SOC that Hans actually succeeded in his research and took a trip to the past then back to the present. You can’t travel into the future because the future hasn’t happened yet. George makes it clear that a covert agency is needed to police time travel, so the Time Enforcement Commission (TEC) is formed. Named as the director of the TEC is Commander Eugene Matuzak, formerly of the Washington DC police department. Senator Aaron McComb, who sees possibilities, agrees to chair the oversight on the new program. Sometime later, at a shopping center, TEC agent Max Walker and his wife Melissa are being watched by a pair of shady looking men. Later, at home. Max and Melissa spend some passionate time together. That night, Melissa is about to tell Max something extremely important when the phone rings. Max answers the phone and is told to go to TEC headquarters. Max gets dressed and as soon as Max opens the front door to go outside, he is attacked by the two men from the shopping center. As the two men are beating Max up. Max sees Aaron looking out the window of the bedroom that Melissa is still in, and Aaron is holding Melissa hostage, forcing Melissa to watch Max’s beating. The two men outside then shoot Max, who is wearing a bulletproof vest — and then an explosion engulfs the house, killing Melissa. On October 30, 1929, on Wall Street in New York City, a man named Lyle Atwood enters an office building and rides an elevator up to an office. There is a sudden ripple in the office, and Max enters from the future. It turns out that Lyle is Max’s partner, and Lyle is planning to stop the depression from happening. Max wants to know who Lyle is working for, and Lyie calls two security men into the office to deal with Max. Max beats up the two security men, and Lyle pulls out a gun and opens fire on Max. When Lyle runs out of bullets, Max forces Lyle to admit that he’s working for Aaron, and that Aaron has paid off a lot of other TEC agents as well. Lyle then jumps out the window. Max jumps out after Lyle, grabs him, and takes Lyle with him back to present time, which is now the year 2004, ten years after Melissa’s murder. TEC judge Marshall sentences Lyle to be immediately executed, so Lyle is sent back to 1929 and is dropped to his death from the point in midair where Max and Lyle disappeared to 2004. At TEC Headquarters in 2004, Aaron, Max, and Matuzak are showing Senator Malcolm Nelson around the TEC building. Aaron reminds everyone that people who go back in time risk coming into contact with a past version of themselves. The same matter cannot occupy the same space at the same time, because if that happens, and if it’s a person accidentally making physical contact with their past version, that person will die, and their body will disappear from the face of the Earth. Later, Max tells Matuzak that Aaron wants to shut down the TEC so no one can stop him from altering the past to his advantage, because Aaron is now running for President of the United States. Aaron’s fading campaign for president is dealt a blow when he is denied federal campaign matching funds. Just before Max wakes up, two men break into his home to kill him, but Max turns the tables and kills the two men who broke in. TEC internal affairs investigator Sarah Fielding questions Max. Max soon learns that Sarah may be on the wrong side in this. Max must travel back and forth in time to bring Aaron down…and when Max goes back to 1994 and finds out what Melissa wanted to tell him 10 years ago, it gives Max incentive to at least try to prevent Melissa’s murder. |

Where else was a similar plot device to "American Beauty" used?
In "American Beauty" we start by being shown the ending without knowing why it happened. Later sequences (or flashbacks) give us one narrative of how it might have happened, then other ones supersede that with another and then a third.
Where else has this been used, other than "Memento", "Planet of the Apes", Zhang Yimou’s "Hero", the Terminator series, van Damme’s "Timecop" or "Lord of the Rings"? (don’t mention junk like "Back to the Future" trilogy). Who first used it?
Do you also like this plot device?
LilyRT - it’s not so much the nonlinear timeline as the fact that we get several successive narratives, each of which casts the ending in a different light and supersedes the previous ones.
Pulp Fiction and Big Fish–though they don’t quite meet your description. the conclusion isn’t shown at the beginning. It’s just a nonlinear timeline.
Goodfellas–it’s narrated by the guy at the end.
Saving Private Ryan
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Usual Suspects
Gandhi
The Grudge
I also remember this interesting episode of thirtysomething where a dinner was replayed from four different points of view.
Twilight Zone (50s) in To Serve Man is the best, earliest one I can come up with–that one was great.
Thought of an earlier one–Double Indemnity (1944)–a lot of those old detective noir films were narrated first person. It’s not far-fetched to take it a half-step forward and have them narrating a flash-back.
and another Freaks (1932)–not narrated by it starts off by telling the back story to a side show attraction. great flick
OKAY, this is the earliest i can think of–The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)–silent flick. you open with two gentlemen talking about a young woman. they flashback to the story of how she got that way. but, you really don’t get the story til the "reveal" at the end. another great movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0010323/
since I love all these examples, I think it’s safe to say I love this device.
EDIT: but American Beauty doesn’t really do that. the only one you mentioned that does that is Hero. the only one I can think of that does that is the episode of thirtysomething. still interesting. looks at a dinner through four different sets of eyes.

In the classic Sunset Boulevard, the William Holden character seen dead in a swimming pool at the beginning narrates what happened to get to that point.
Harold Pintar’s Betrayal is a play and film of a illicit love affair in reverse.
The Japanese film Rashamon by Kurasawa starts after a rape and murder and tells what happened from 4 viewpoints. There is an American version with Paul Newman.

I personally would give all of them 3/5.Because they are good movies - but not my kind.
Just because I don’t like them - they’re still good movies.
So yeah, 3/5.

What is the best weapon setup/perk combo in Call of Duty 4 reflex?
Right now Im using
G3 with red dot
1911
claymore
deep impact
and
martydom
Give me feedback people! Criticize me or commend me.
It depends what lvl you are. Im 1st Prestige and i use:
G36C -Primary
Desert Eagle -Sidearm
PERKS:
Bandolier-double mags
Deep Impact -Same as you (great minds think alike)
Martyrdom -Always good to try and get that extra kill
I chose these because the G36C has great range for being an assault rifle and with the double magazines perk, since the clip (the # of bullets that show on your screen) is so small, you can be running out of bullets in the middle of a gun fight when your on a streak or such. Yes the Desert Eagle has a lot of recoil but you cant argue with its raw power (especially with Deep Impact, that goes for the G36C as well.) And lastly, Martyrdom is, as i said before, always good to try and get that extra kill if another guy knifes you or in a close range gun-fight. Just make sure if you kill someone, on the other hand, that he doesn’t have it.
Hopefully this helped and, again, these are just my suggestions.

What reasons do you believe were the end result of this Super Bowl Game?
I believe poor field position and poor protection for the Patriots were huge contributors to the end result.
Is it me or did it seem Patriots defense after their final scoring drive were nonchalant by playing loose, picking up Giants players, and patting them on their helmets between plays as if they had the game locked?
The biggest play in my opinion was the scramble play on 3rd and 5 with 1:15 on the clock with the completion from Manning to Tyree (incredible catch) in final Giants drive.
Lastly, Brady finally looked rattled in this game.
What reasons do you believe were the melt down of the Patriots?
Spy games will be in question.
Should there be an astrick next to the Patriots Super Bowl victories?
Do you believe the Chargers wish Manning would have stayed with them?
Just trying to cover all angles of the media to come.
giants rush was to much, eli managing to escape that sack and throw a 45 yard pass to tyree and him catching with his helmet.

The N.Y. Giants worked to get to where they are, and they won. N.E. cheated to get to the big game!!! They deserved to lose!
Inspector | Feb 03, 2008
It boiled down to this: who wanted it more. The Giants.
Tom Brady was on his back so much, he started getting a bald spot on the back of his head.
Carmen | Feb 03, 2008
I think Brady either tweaked his ankle in the 3rd quarter or hurt his shoulder a little when he fumbled, he did try to unload that ball when his arm got stopped quick. No i’m not a Pats fan either, hell i’m from Buffalo we hate those guys.

Those Pokemon are all just fine, but there is an item that you can get that lets you re-fight all of the trainers you have already battled, if you get that item you can battle some of the harder Pokemon trainers, that also give you more EXP. Oh and also evolve your Munchlax, and Riolu. After that you will beat all of the Elite Four with no complications!

Which Bindings would go with this board?
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0034/11 22/products/lib_tech_skate_banana_green_ blue_medium.jpg
I got this in a 159 wide, but im not sure which bindings i should get, any recommendations?
I got size 12 feet so they have to be available in large or x-large.
Call www.lib-tech.com , makers of the skate banana, and ask them. They have a very good customer service line. I have called them before.
With a 12 boot, you hsould not need a XL binding.
Mad Money Mike | Feb 05, 2010
with only a size 12 boot you shouldn’t need a wide board…it might actually be too wide. I wear 11.5 and I’m perfectly fine with room to spare on a regular K2 Nemesis. As far as bindings, that’s a very hard question to answer seeing as how we don’t know your preferences…obviously you want a freestyle binding; do you want something super popular that everyone and their mama jumps on the bandwagon to get like Burtons? Or do you want something comfortable and reliable and worth the money you spend on them like Unions or Ride? Or do you want easy to adjust like Flows?

highlander movies, TV episodes, and animated series
spacedmanspif | Apr 11, 2008
Start with the original movie. Then watch the Highlander series. After that, The Raven, The Animated Series and The Methos Chronicles followed by The Search for Vengeance. Ignore all of the movies after #1, because they all sucked. If you skip the second movie you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor.

Difference between two types of cloth?
What is the difference between fleece (100%) and flex fleece (50% cotton 50% polyester)?
I’m wondering about the behavior of both types of cloth (shrinkage, wrinkling, thinness, softness, etcetera).
fleece is heftier and less stretchy but really warm and has good hold up and felx fleece is stretchier and idk if its warmer
London Allaire | Feb 07, 2010
Flex fleece is basically just more stretchy and is used a lot in women’s clothes for that fitted look. They are basically equally soft, but I find that 100% fleece is warmer or at least thicker.
You can find 75 25 blends nowadays as well.
